“Asteroids”: Arcade Game to Major Movie?

This shocked me. I like reading news, both about movies and games, but never expected this! As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, one of the most popular video arcade games of all times, Asteroids, is going to be made into a movie by Universal….

Has Hollywood gone nuts?

Atari released "Asteroids" in 1979. The graphics were black and white vector objects. There was no plot. Just shoot the asteroids and the flying saucers with your spaceship while trying not to get shot at or crushed! Kids, and adults, spent hours playing this game!

So that leaves one to question. What will the movie plot be? There are no characters in the game besides the spaceship. The goal was to rack up points by destroying objects!

Oh, and get this, Universal was one of 4 movie studios fighting over the rights to make this movie!

This whole idea drives me mad. Now, just when you think it may be the end of Hollywood making good movies, you may be right! It was also reported that they're also planning on making movies from classic board games! Be expecting to hear about "Candyland" and "Battleship"! –No joke!
