Black Friday... All Month Long??? (11/24/10)

What's going on here? Black Friday is not just one day of the year anymore? I mean, come on! Black Friday is the unofficial start of the Christmas shopping season... and used for retailer to push their sales. It works pretty well for them too. the International Council of Shopping Centers listed the day in 2003 & 3005 as the busiest of the year for retailers! That means it triumphed over the Saturday before Christmas, which has always held the number one spot as the busiest!

This year, we're seeing something different. Stores are really competing to get the customer's money. So instead of holding out to that specific day, they are pushing special sells on the weekends ahead of it! It's like the specials are for the entire month, but given the name of Black Friday just to gain attention on the rush of get it now!

They have "PRE-Black Friday" sales... will we be hearing about "POST-Black Friday" sales??? I surely hope not, but I see the stores doing it. Just to make sure they can make the extra buck. It never fails to surprise me on how far these retailers go.

Thankfully, there is nothing that that appeals to us this year. That means we won't be spending any money! ;)

Here's a thought:
It reminds me of something our Pastor mentioned during his sermon on Sunday when commenting on how people camped out at theaters to see a new movie. Wouldn't it be something to camp out at church for a Sunday morning (preferably in warmer weather) to show how excited you are to be there? Rush in grab a good seat, and welcome all those others, who although made it on time or even a bit early, and make them feel like they missed the excitement? An activity could be made of it. Boy, sounds like fun to me... I may look into this!
